Heat
FCCA advocates for local solutions to heat dangers by educating government officials on the specific challenges in their communities. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends federal heat standards that employers must follow to protect their employees. FCCA supports this federal policy.
Greening Public Schools
FCCA encourages public schools to incorporate climate and health friendly policies like electric school buses, composting, and using reusable containers.
Young People Climate Lawsuit
FCCA supports the group of young Floridians suing the state agency that regulates public utilities in the hopes of forcing the energy companies to transition toward renewable energy sources.
Anti-Incinerator Action
FCCA educates the community and lawmakers on the health dangers of pollution from incineration, and to instead prioritize zero-waste responses.
Outdoor Worker Advocay
Since our inception in 2018, FCCA has worked to establish ordinances that protect outdoor workers from severe heat-related health events, like heat stroke and death. We continue to advocate for policies that protect lives.
The 2018 Climate & Health Equity Symposium educated over 100 clinicians, primarily physicians of color, on addressing the health effects of climate change in low-income Floridians. At the conclusion of the symposium, there was a breakout session, where a group of about 30 physicians agreed to create Florida Clinicians for Climate Action and issued the Tampa Declaration on Climate & Health. The Tampa Declaration on Climate and Health is a call to action for Florida health professionals to protect public health from climate change impacts.
