Special Guest Speaker:
Presented by Dr. Sandra Gampf, MD, FACP
Dr. Sandra Gompf is an Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases and International Medicine for the University of South Florida and Section Chief in Infectious Diseases at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa. In 2009, her son, Phillip went swimming with his cousins in a lake in Polk County. Five days later, he was dead, the victim Naegleria fowleri meningitis, commonly known as PAM or the brain-eating amoeba. PAM is 99% fatal, and 100% preventable with proper precautions. Pathogens like PAM and Vibrio, the flesh-eating bacteria thrive in warm waters, which are more common in our changing climate. Join the meeting to learn the facts and stay safe!
